Introduction

Established in 2005, Speediswim has nurtured SIngapore's first batch of artistic swimmers (formerly known as synchronised swimming). We have produced many topnotch artistic swimmers such as Debbie Soh, Stephanie Chen, Crystal Yap and more. Philip, Founder of Speediswim, was a vice-president of artistic swimming in Singapore Swimming Association, bringing Singapore her first gold medal in the SEA Games in the sport in 2015.

Artistic Swimming was once referred to as 'water ballet.' This is because the routines are simply a sequence of athletic movements choreographed to a piece of music. It is similar to staged ballet, except that it is performed in water. Although it is art, beauty, and dance choreographed to music, don’t be deceived by the glitzy performance and lipsticked smiles on the athletes’ faces. Below the surface, top-conditioned competitors perform remarkable feats of strength and flexibility. In fact, even while displaying their choreographed acrobatics with rhythm and flair, artistic swimmers spend much time underwater, performing some routines on a single breath.

Training sessions at Speediswim are devoted to working on “figures” (also known as moves), it is the set of body positions and transition movement which form the basis of artistic swimming. Its about performing highly specialised skills, the precision of movement in unison, one with the other, and the accompaniment above and below the surface accompanied with music. Land exercises  include flexibility, strength, and weight training, and also Speediswim trains them to coordinate and concentrate on the  skills as they must perform the routines/choreography on count. Best of all, the Olympic sized pool is a covered pool, you can swim even in a thunderstorm. No workouts need be ruined by bad weather.

The young athletes learn how to compete, how to work hard, how to manage their time while striving for good academic results with training upto many hours per week. By working both out of the water and in the water, they learn invaluable lessons for life.

Artistic swimming is performed Solo, in Duets, Trio, Team, Combination etc., it demands tremendous stamina, agility, flexibility, grace, artistry, precise timing, and excellent breath control while upside down underwater. Routines are graded on a 100-point scale, with points awarded for execution, artistic Impression, and complexity.

Benefits of Artistic Swimming

Concentration and Coordination Skills

It is  a sport that develops team spirit, concentration and self-discipline to a high degree,  as they must perform the choreography, count, and pay attention to their teammates to check if they are in sync and working as a team.

Creativity is key

Creativity is an essential aspect of artistic Swimming. the athletes with their coaches  can make up new dances, pick a song , design the swimsuit with all different colors and shapes, and create an entire theme from various styles of music each year for your competition.

Full-bodied workout

It's a full-body sport that requires and develops several capacities at the same time: Twists, split, pointing toes, and other acrobatics can be incorporated into artistic swimming routines. Since the routine is varied, you are continually isolating and stimulating individual muscles.

Since artistic swimmers cannot touch the bottom of the pool for lifts, they must develop their strength on land in order to perform gravity-defying lifts.

Improved Stamina, Endurance and Flexibility

Swimmers must execute their drills without hitting the surface, using a mixture of eggbeater and sculling to shift in and out of positions and arm movements. This constant movement increases stamina because athletes participate in a full-body workout during each routine

Artistic Swimming will help you become more versatile and limber in all facets of the sport, whether on land or water.
