Our Approach

SPEEDI Swim Class — “Happy Swimming, Good Technique”

From as young as 3.5 years old, children start a joyful, seven-stage journey that blends water safety with beautifully
coached strokes — always taught by a Certified Swim Teacher.

Why parents choose SPEEDI over a typical swim class

1) A pathway you can see

SPEEDI Children Learn To Swim follows 7 progressive stages — from Water Confidence and Kicks to Front Crawl, Backstroke,
Breaststroke, Butterfly, and finally Individual Medley readiness. You’ll always know what your child is working on, how we measure
success, and what comes next. No vague levels — just a clear roadmap that keeps motivation high.

2) Expert teachers in every lane

Every class is planned and delivered by a Certified Swim Teacher. Sessions follow a purposeful rhythm
(warm-up → new skill focus → targeted practice → feedback) and are adapted on the spot for different learning styles. We use child-friendly cues —
“long like a pencil”, “soft knees”, “breathe low” — paired with just-right challenges, so progress is happy and fast without shortcuts.

3) Technique and safety — taught together

From day one we weave age-appropriate water-safety into technique: safe entries/exits, listening skills, treading water,
rescue awareness, and (at the right stage) clothing-swim practice. Our teaching dovetails naturally with SwimSafer
outcomes, so assessment day feels like a familiar practice — not a stressful exam.

4) Small groups, individual attention

Young swimmers thrive with frequent feedback and plenty of practice. We keep ratios tight and group by ability so each child gets the coaching
time they need — enough repetitions to build muscle memory, and enough encouragement to build confidence.

5) Progress you can trust

Promotion happens when skills are shown consistently, not just once. Families receive termly progress updates
outlining what improved, what’s next, and how to support practice between lessons. If a swimmer needs longer in a stage, we refine the plan — not the standards.

SPEEDI 7 Stages

  1. Stage 1 — Water Confidence: happy submersion, assisted floats, gentle propulsion, safe entries/exits.
  2. Stage 2 — Kicks: streamline shapes, independent kicking (front/back), listening & pool rules.
  3. Stage 3 — Front Crawl: breathing rhythm, catch & rotation, 10–25 m quality swims.
  4. Stage 4 — Backstroke: body line & rhythm, strong push-offs, intro to turns.
  5. Stage 5 — Breaststroke: timing + glide, distance control, smooth breathing.
  6. Stage 6 — Butterfly: dolphin-kick rhythm, body wave, short-distance butterfly with good form.
  7. Stage 7 — Individual Medley: four strokes linked with basic turns & pacing; IM readiness.

Our technique pathway dovetails with national water-safety milestones (SwimSafer), so families can add formal assessments
when their Certified Swim Teacher confirms readiness.

Where the pathway leads

By Stage 7, swimmers perform all four strokes with developing turns and pacing. From there, they can explore
Swim Fitness (to swim faster or further), move toward Pre-Squad Competitive, or sample team pathways
like Water Polo or Artistic Swimming while continuing to polish technique.

SpeediSwim Levels

Level 1: Water Confidence

Level 1 builds the essential foundation for every swimmer by developing comfort, trust, and enjoyment in water. Through guided play and structured practice, learners overcome fear and gain control in a safe, nurturing environment. Lessons emphasise body balance, buoyancy, and movement through the water using basic breathing and floating skills. This stage ensures each swimmer becomes water-ready before advancing to propulsion techniques.

Key Components:

  • Water confidence and safety awareness
  • Submersion and breath control
  • Floating and gliding independently
  • Basic body balance and movement in water

Level 2: Kicks Fundamental

Level 2 focuses on developing effective propulsion through correct leg movement while maintaining balance and body position in water. Swimmers learn coordinated kicking techniques on both front and back, preparing them for stroke development in later levels. Emphasis is placed on core stability, rhythmic breathing, and confident movement over short distances. This stage bridges the transition from water familiarity to structured swimming technique.

Key Components:

  • Front and back kicking with correct body alignment
  • Rhythmic breathing coordination
  • Core stability and balance control
  • Propulsion and movement over short distances

Level 3: Front Crawl stroke development

Level 3 introduces the fundamentals of the front crawl, focusing on body streamline, arm recovery, and coordinated breathing. Swimmers learn to combine effective kicks with alternating arm strokes to achieve smooth propulsion and rhythm in the water. Breathing patterns and body rotation are refined to promote efficiency and endurance. This level builds the foundation for confident, continuous freestyle swimming over longer distances.

Key Components:

  • Front crawl arm and leg coordination
  • Side breathing and exhalation control
  • Streamlined body position and rotation
  • Continuous freestyle swimming with rhythm

Level 4: Backstroke stroke development

Level 4 develops the swimmer’s confidence and technique on their back, introducing correct body alignment, steady flutter kick, and continuous arm rotation for efficient backstroke propulsion. Learners focus on maintaining balance, rhythm, and breathing while facing upward, ensuring smooth coordination and relaxed movement. This stage enhances spatial awareness, stroke timing, and endurance, preparing swimmers for advanced stroke techniques.

Key Components:

  • Proper body alignment and head position on the back
  • Continuous flutter kicking with stability
  • Alternating arm rotation and timing
  • Coordination of rhythm and breathing for backstroke

Level 5: Breaststroke Stroke Development

Level 5 introduces the breaststroke, focusing on mastering timing, glide, and coordination between arm pull, breathing, and frog kick. Swimmers learn efficient propulsion through symmetrical movements while maintaining streamlined body position and rhythm. Emphasis is placed on proper breathing timing and stroke sequencing to build smooth, energy-efficient swimming. This level strengthens endurance and prepares swimmers for advanced multi-stroke development.

Key Components:

  • Correct arm pull and recovery technique
  • Frog kick coordination with glide phase
  • Timing of breathing and stroke sequence
  • Streamlined body position and endurance building

Level 6: Butterfly Stroke Development

Level 6 introduces the dynamic butterfly stroke, focusing on body undulation, rhythm, and timing between arm recovery and dolphin kick. Swimmers develop core strength, coordination, and endurance to execute smooth, flowing movements across the water. Breathing technique and body control are emphasised to sustain momentum and efficiency. This stage refines whole-body movement, promoting rhythm and power essential for advanced swimming performance.

Key Components:

  • Dolphin kick coordination with body wave motion
  • Simultaneous arm pull and recovery technique
  • Breathing timing within stroke rhythm
  • Core strength and endurance for sustained movement

Level 7: Individual Medley, Starts, Turns

Level 7 unites all four competitive strokes — butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle — into the Individual Medley sequence. Swimmers refine stroke transitions, turns, and pacing while maintaining efficiency and control. Emphasis is placed on endurance, technique consistency, and race-ready coordination across varying stroke demands. This level marks the culmination of the Learn to Swim journey, preparing swimmers for pre-squad training or specialised aquatic pathways.

Key Components:

  • Mastery of all four competitive strokes
  • Smooth transitions and correct turns
  • Endurance and pacing control
  • Technique consistency and efficiency across strokes

Level 4b: Survival Backstroke

Level 4B introduce the survival backstroke, an essential survival and life-saving skill that combines efficient propulsion with energy conservation. Swimmers learn coordinated arm and leg movements using a reverse whip-kick and streamlined glide to maintain buoyancy and endurance in the water. The emphasis is on stroke rhythm, controlled breathing, and water safety awareness in an emergency situation. This stage builds confidence and prepares learners for breaststroke in Level 5.

Key Components:

  • Coordinated survival backstroke arm and leg movements
  • Glide and rhythm for energy efficiency
  • Controlled breathing and endurance

Benefits of Learn To Swim Program

Water-safety confidence for life

Equip your child with lifelong water-safety skills. Swimming lessons foster respect for water, safe entry techniques, floating, treading, and controlled breathing under pressure. These essential skills translate to greater confidence in pools, beaches, and school camps. Children who are well-prepared remain calm, make informed decisions, and enjoy the water safely, providing parents with invaluable peace of mind every day.

Stronger bodies, better posture

Watch your child grow stronger, taller, and steadier—without pounding growing joints. Learn-to-Swim builds core strength, shoulder stability, flexible hips and balanced muscles. Streamline body shapes and controlled kicks promote long spines and open chests. Expect sharper coordination, better endurance, and body awareness that supercharges sport, playground play, and lifelong confidence.

Sharp brains, faster learning

Synchronising breaths, kicks, and arm movements engage both brain hemispheres, enhancing focus, sequencing, and memory. Children practice timing, counting strokes, and following multi-step instructions, skills that directly contribute to academic success. Following lessons, many parents observe improved behaviour and concentration. This form of physical activity stimulates cognitive development, as well as physical fitness, offering benefits for both school and sport.

Resilience and a growth mindset

Enrolling your child in swimming lessons is an excellent way to cultivate resilience. The water provides immediate and direct feedback, encouraging children to try, adapt their approach, and persevere. Every small achievement, from mastering submersion to swimming new distances or swimming with additional clothing, builds significant confidence. This "I can do it" mindset can then be applied to many areas of life.

Social skills and independence

Children develop essential social skills, such as active listening, taking turns, encouraging peers, and following coaching instructions. They also learn practical responsibilities like pool etiquette and managing their own gear. These experiences foster independence and bravery. Key moments, like waiting patiently, cheering for a teammate, or supporting an anxious friend, truly cultivate empathy and leadership qualities. Ultimately, these interactions help shape the child into a kind, capable individual prepared for future challenges.

A lifetime sport with many opportunities

Once foundational skills are mastered, swimming unlocks various opportunities: fitness swimming for health, school teams, triathlon, open water, lifesaving, water polo, artistic swimming, or even underwater sports. It is a skill that will serve them for decades, whether for leisure activities, such as holidays and camps, or even for potential employment opportunities as a coach. This single decision can lead to a lifetime of opportunities for enjoyment, community engagement, and active lifestyle.
